Upcoming Updates to the Singapore's Childcare Leave Scheme

Updated: 3 minutes ago

Childcare Leave

Upcoming updates for working parents and employers! Following the National Day Rally by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Singapore is enhancing statutory childcare leave to better support growing families.

The enhancements to childcare leave and government reimbursement are among the first set of recommendations from the Marriage and Parenthood Reset Workgroup to be accepted by the government. The workgroup, chaired by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Indranee Rajah, will release a fuller set of recommendations in early 2027.

Here is what HR leaders and business owners need to know (note that the implementation date is to be confirmed):

𝐓𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐤𝐢𝐝𝐬 𝐮𝐩 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝟏𝟐):

• 𝟏 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝: 8 days/year

• 𝟐 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧: 10 days/year

• 𝟑+ 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧: 12 days/year

(Current scheme merged CCL & ECL into one streamlined policy)

𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐢𝐦𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: To ease the cost burden on businesses, the Government will fund the full duration of the new statutory child-related leave schemes (up to S$500 a day), an improvement to the current subsidy of three days for the CCL and two days for the ECL.
